Click on the chat bar so that it opens showing your list of friends who are available. Go to the options button in the top right corner (looks like a little wheel). Click on “Advanced Settings.” A box will appear with 3 different options. You can turn ON your chat for all friends except for a few whose names you type in, so that everyone other than those people will think you are online. You can appear OFFLINE for all of your friends except for a few whose names you type in. Alternatively you can just turn the chat completely off.
